We talked a lot before about gluten sensitivity vs. celiac disease and I thought it might be helpful to share this link: the Gluten Intolerance Group defines the difference between “gluten intolerance” & “celiac diease.”

The Gluten Intolerance Group is, of course, the group that brings us the Gluten-Free Certification Organization, the Gluten-Free Restaurant Awareness Program, and they organize GF summer camps for children with gluten-intolerance. Check them out!

We recognised the need to alllow all sufferers of gluten to meet. In order to become a member of our UK Coeliac Society, you have to be nedically registered. We now have 50+ members, some are IBS sufferers some are diabetics but all cannot tolerate gluten.
So we created our Group in West Sussex, we have a super free web site, with lots of GF Recipes, around 30 and its all free. Take a look at our web site, 18 countries have looked so far and let us know via our Contact Us what you think.

Check out Dr. Peter Green’s book, “Celiac Disease: The Hidden Epidemic.” He states that there is Celiac Disease where you have several types of antibodies and a positive biopsy, Gluten Sensitivity where you have only one type of antibodies and Gluten Intolerance where you don’t have antibodies at all.

Of course not all gastroenterologists agree with him either even though he’s the director of the Columbia University Celiac Center.

Sheltie Girl, you are so right! I pulled out the book last night and did a double-take! I didn’t remember him talking about sensitivity at all — he really doesn’t get into it much, and doesn’t seem to EVER recommend a gf-diet except in cases of biopsy-proven CD or DH. But he does mention it.

    Thanks, as always, for sharing.
